Opening Mozilla Firefox in safe mode
Mozilla Firefox is a world-known feature-rich browser with thousands of settings. Although is works amazingly fast and stable, sometimes you might need to fix some small problems or issues of the browser’s performance. Safe Mode was developed to help you to reset some settings, disable add-ons, themes and extensions for fixing any problems. Below you will find a detailed manual on how to open Mozilla Firefox in safe mode.
You can choose any of these 3 options to launch Mozilla Firefox in safe mode:
- From the browser’s main menu Click the main menu icon, situated in the upper right of your window. A following small menu will drop down: Than tap on the question mark icon to enter help menu. You will see a list of options: Choose Restart with Add-ons disabled. Your browser will be closed and reopened immediately. When the browser restarts, a pop-up window should appear. To enter safe mode, choose Continue in Safe Mode. Then you will need to disable all your add-ons one by one. The reason is that most of your Firefox’s problems are usually caused by the add-ons. Continue to restart your browser and turn off different add-ons until you will fix the issue. In case this method does not work, you can also try to reset Mozilla completely. However, turning the program to its default value will delete all your bookmarks, preferences, add-ons and passwords. To perform this option, repeat all the previous steps; this time you will need to choose Reset Firefox instead of Continue in Safe Mode.
- Using Key Another convenient method to launch your browser in safe mode is using a Shift key on your keyboard. Just press Shift and click on the browser’s icon. A following window will pop-up on your screen: Here you will need to choose Start in Safe Mode option.
- Using a Run Box Using a Run Box can also be a great solution of the issue. In Windows 10, from the WinX Menu, as long as in other operating systems of Windows family, open the Run box, type the following and press Enter: firefox -safe-mode
- Using a command line (for experienced users): First of all, open a command prompt, type the following and press Enter: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” -safe-mode
All these methods are suitable for Windows users, but what about Mac OS and Linux?
Below are simple instructions for both operating systems.
To launch your browser in safe mode on your Linux, just open your terminal and type: firefox -safe-mode
For Mac OS computers you will also need to use terminal and type: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -safe-mode
